Magnesium is needed for all life on earth and earth itself. It helps run this laptop I am using and your phone that you are probably reading this on. Over half, about 60%, of your skeleton is made up of magnesium. Yet there is a good chance that you are not getting enough of the Mg you need. It's said that up to 80% of people are deficient and don't even know it! I mean, really, it's not like Mg is the sexiest thing on your mind, is it? Mr. Mg isn't even on most people's radar. That's a sad thing, too, because I bet if you gave him a glance you'd see how much better your life is with Mg in it!

Mg in everyday Foods

Bananas have 32 mg per serving.

Quinoa has 118 in every 1/2 cup serving.

Broccoli has 51 mg/ half cup.

Avocado's have 58 mg per whole fruit.

Oatmeal has 57 mg for every cup.

Spinach has a whopping 157 mg for every cup!

So...what are the signs?

Constipation

Muscle cramping

headaches and migraines

Poor sleep

Chronic Pain

Depression or mood disorders

Just to name a very few.

With that being said, I use 365 Brand from Whole Foods, Lemon Fizz Magnesium supplement. I take it once a day, usually in the morning with my morning water. I like how the fizz tickles my nose to help wake me up! It tastes like a lemon flavored Damian- mmm...tastes like youth. If you don't know what a Damian is, I feel bad for you, Son. It was a locally-owned frozen lemonade that qualified for the school lunch program because of the fruit content (lol!). There is no way I would let my child have a sugar-laden dessert for a drink everyday in school, but, damn does it make for some great memories of eating lunch on a hot summer day in the courtyard with friends.

How much Mg do you need?

Women need about 300 mg of Mg a day, and men need around 400 mg/day. Of course if you eat a balanced diet you should be getting enough of everything you need. As we all know not all the food we eat is always what it seems. Some foods aren't as nutritious as you think they are and anti-nutrients such as sugar can deplete certain nutrients. Even medications such as birth control can rob your body of vital nutrients. So, it doesn't hurt to add a supplement to your already glowing diet. Just be sure to read the label and consult your doctor before. Just as too much isn't good for your body, neither is too much. BALANCE is what we are striving for - in all areas of diet and life.
